Foreign copyright claims can be heard in the UK

The Supreme Court (the UK’s highest appellate Court) has today given its much awaited judgment in the case of Lucasfilm Limited v Ainsworth.  The dispute concerns the famous Imperial Stormtrooper helmets used in the Star Wars films and whether they are protected by UK copyright laws.

My Wobble Board and Marketing Your Product

Last April I broke my ankle, and for those of you who read my first article I can assure you that the fracture was not as a result of wearing high heels on Buckingham Palace lawn but rather as a consequence of tripping over a stone.  Anyway as part of physiotherapy and in order to improve muscle strength in my ankle I purchased an exercise platform overlaying a central pivot, more commonly known as a “wobble board”.

Patents County Court Reforms

The Patents County Court (PCC) was established in 1990 under s287(1) of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. This court was set up with the intention of allowing simpler intellectual property cases to be dealt with, providing an alternative to the High Court and reducing the cost of patent litigation. In reality however the PCC has widely missed the mark and has the same costs and jurisdiction as the High Court, making no difference to the owner of rights looking to bring legal action. more...
